Port Shepstone court hands child rapist 20-year prison term

The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the child.

A 47-year-old man from Nkampini has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for the rape of a seven-year-old child known to him.

Several children had been left in his care for a few hours while family members were away on September 7, 2024, when the incident occurred.

The children later reported the matter to adults and the man was subsequently arrested.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Philile Ndlovo.

He was convicted in the Port Shepstone Regional Court last month and sentenced to 20 years behind bars. He was also declared unfit to work with children.

His details will be entered into the National Child Protection Register.
