Animal-lovers encouraged to support next snare hunt

Everyone is asked to meet at the Riverside Bowling Club, Uvongo, at 8.30am.

A small group of volunteers recently searched high and low in thick dune vegetation for snares.

The group met at Wild Waves holiday apartments and scanned the bushes for any signs of man-made traps.

Trainee Field Officer Werner Taljaard of the Lower South Coast SPCA headed up the hunt.

Despite only a few snares being found, it was a good exercise to sweep through the area as it is home to ample wildlife, including buck and birds.

Recently, Officer Taljaard found a dead buck caught in a snare and saw another one running around with a snare stuck around its neck.

All environment lovers are urged to join the next snare hunt on Saturday, August 18.

Everyone is asked to meet at the Riverside Bowling Club, Uvongo, at 8.30am.
