Sheppie Snippets: Temples to host sacred prayer
Various temples on the South Coast will observe Lakshmi prayer this Friday.
Varalakshmi Vrata is a festival to propitiate the goddess Lakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, one of the Hindu Trinity.
Varalakshmi is one who grants boons (Varam). It is an important pooja performed by many women in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The Hindu festival going by the name ‘Vara Lakshmi Vrata’ is celebrated on the second Friday or the Friday before full moon.
The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramonair Alayam invites all to its annual Varalakshmi Vratham Prayer (Lakshmi Prayer) this Friday, August 24 at 6pm. All women who wish to take part in the Kuthuvilakku prayer must contact Ragini Ramuloo at 083 7035303 for the prayer requirements. Service will be dedicated to the divine mother Lakshmi followed by the tying of the strings by Guru. Supper will be served. All are welcome.
Sri Krishna Janamastami
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Port Shepstone branch, invites all to join them in celebrating Sri Krishna Janamastami. The celebration will be observed at the Shree Raam Narayan Mandir this Saturday, at 3.30pm.

Comedy show
The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramaniar Alayam will host a Dingaling Production, ‘Licence to Thrill’ at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre next Friday, August 31 at 8pm.

Prayer
The Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society will celebrate Gita Week from August 27 to September 2. On September 3, Sri Krishna Janmashtami will be observed.
Recitation and scriptural discourses on the Bhagwad Gita will commence on the first day. Services will take place from 6.30pm to 7.30pm daily during these dates of Gita Week.
Sri Krishna Janmastami on Monday, September 3 is from 6.30pm to midnight. Bhajans will also be rendered. Pundit Aview Misra will officiate. For more information contact Singh Samsunder 039 6854767.

Golf day
The Maha Vishnu Temple will be observing its annual Lakshmi prayer this Friday, at 7pm. Members of the temple together with the Cancer Association of South Africa are hosting its annual golf day at the Port Shepstone Country Club on Sunday, September 2.
Plenty of prizes are to be won. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Association.
There will be a candle lighting ceremony to honour all those who have lost their fight, not forgetting those that are still fighting cancer.

Fun run/walk
Bread of Heaven’s annual fun walk/run takes place on Saturday, September 8 at Port Shepstone Senior Primary School grounds. Bread of Heaven is a non-profit volunteer organisation that supplies freshly prepared lunch packages to over a thousand school pupils and other welfare organisations in the Port Shepstone area on a daily basis. Identify items
Port Shepstone Detective Service would like the public to please come and identify stolen property which was recovered near Batstone’s Drift in Port Shepstone on July 12.
