Special outing to Mpenjati for South Coast mothers

Lighthouse Community Services organised a day of fun and love on Mothers' Day.

Seniors were treated to a special Mothers’ Day outing by Lighthouse Community Services to Mpenjati Nature Reserve in Port Edward recently.

They were taken on a bus trip to the reserve for a day filled with fun and games, and not forgetting, to honour their resilience and wisdom.

The organisation’s chairman, Sunil Singh, said that many of the elderly mothers were simply too happy to take the trip.

“It is a token of appreciation for what our seniors have given back to us over the decades by their generous example and community spirit. We want to let our seniors know that they have a place of value in our hearts. This outing emphasised that ageing is a privilege, and focused on treating our mothers with the dignity and adoration they deserve,” explained Singh.

He added that all mothers are warriors. “They live their lives with hardship and treating them like royalty for a day was our pleasure. They were treated to many activities, scrumptious lunch, music, dance and vouchers to make them feel cherished on their special day.”

He thanked sponsors and his team for making the event a success.

Lighthouse Community Services, a non-profit, has been in operation for the last 10 years. It provides monthly discourses for senior citizens, including health day clinics, special outings and much more.
