Daughters forced to cough up after stealing from widowed mother

The sisters had transferred the funds from their mother's account into their own.

STEALING from your mother is never a good idea and it would appear that a Durban magistrate who sentenced both Anisa and Zaadhaya Khan agrees.

The two this week appeared in the Durban Regional Court where they were convicted of defrauding of their mother of more than R1.5-million after the death of her husband.

The sisters had transferred the funds from their mother’s account into their own.

“The accused were arrested, charged and taken to court where they were released on R20 000 bail each. They were subsequently prosecuted and were each sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, which is wholly suspended for five years,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane.

The court ordered that the two sisters each pay back R750 000 as well as their bail of R20 000 to their mother on or before October 31, 2018.
