Beneficiaries urged to swop to the new gold Sassa card before cut-off date
Beneficiaries who swap their old cards before the cut-off date of 20 September 2018, will receive their grants on 1 October 2018 on the new gold card.
The South African Social Security Agency is in the process of phasing out Cash Pay Master Services (CPS) and phasing in South African Post Office (SAPO) for the payment of social grants as of 01 October 2018. The process started in May this year.

Beneficiaries are requested to switch to the new Gold Sassa card or choose to receive their grants through a bank of their choice. Card swaps are conducted at Sassa offices, cash pay points, post office outlets and community venues identified by both Sassa and SAPO.
Sassa will continue to pay social grants at certain identified pay points that are far from merchants and banks on the normal payment cycle, which is from the 1st until the 20th of every month.
Beneficiaries who swap their old cards before the cut-off date of 20 September 2018, will receive their grants on 1 October 2018 on the new gold card.
The new gold card comes with benefits which include:
- Accessing money at any time in merchants, Post Office, or ATMs using a pin
- Unlimited PIN resets at Sassa local offices,
- One pin reset at SAPO outlet per annum
- One funeral deduction which is not more than 10% of the grant (not applicable to child support grant).
Required documents for the card swap
- Old Sassa card
- The beneficiary’s green barcoded ID Book or smart card ID.
