Tweni Talk: Criminals create craftily concealed tunnels

Make a point of checking all perimeter fences and walls and trim bushes on verges.

A TUNNEL measuring a metre deep and half a metre wide, leading from the street into a property in Chakas Road, was reported to Tweni Crime Watch. It made a perfectly concealed hiding place and the same thing was discovered at Lynton Park under the electric fence. Make a point of checking all perimeter fences and walls and trim bushes on verges to ensure good visibility during both the day and night.

Conservancy concerns

RNM’s depot 1 community cleaners, under the supervision of Derrick Morris, cut back verges at the intersection of Old St Faiths’ and Mgazi Avenue (on the eastern side) and sadly some fragile indigenous plants were damaged during the process. Alex Skene says they will take approximately seven years to grow back, so if anyone is planning to do clearing, please contact the Tweni Conservancy before commencing. Alex’s number is 078 5087290.

To market

The popular Muddy Boots Market takes place this Sunday (September 2) – between 7.30am and 12.30pm and there are always loads of treats and goodies on sale. There are new vendors on board so please support this market. Pop in for breakfast and stay for lunch. All proceeds go towards Tweni’s camera upgrade.

Thoughts and prayers

Dr Yvonne Huskisson has made a remarkable recovery after her fall nearly two months ago and with the aid of a stick is now mobile.

Calli Allan picked up a tummy bug and Cindy took her to the doctor last Sunday. She is rehydrating, but still quite weak. The Hunt family are taking strain at the moment.

Kirsty had a back operation and is unable to drive for a while. Matthew got an eye infection which rendered him blind in one eye – hopefully only until the swelling of the nerve goes down. It is rather worrying for the rest of the family. Get well soon.

Well done

Dianne Visser is very proud of her 81-year old mom Monika Middlewick for successfully completing the zipline at Lake Eland. Well done to Samantha Gardner for attaining her ‘Supervisory Development Programme’ certificate recently.

Congratulations

Young girls making their families proud at the moment are Lolla Curnow, who achieved a distinction for pre-primary ballet and a medal for classical ballet ‘Petit Performer’. Well done to Ella Maisch for achieving 100 percent at her first dance eisteddfod.

Three cheers

Belated birthday wishes to young Ella (turned 10 on August 23). Happy birthday this week goes to Mandy Massey and Brenda Janse van Rensburg (28th), Shirene Smith (September 1) Heidi Visser (4th). All news to Leila.
