Knife-man shot and killed at Scottburgh police station

He apparently charged at the officers, who shot in self-defence.

BOTH Scott Street and social media were a hive of activity on Tuesday evening, September 4 when locals were left guessing just what happened after several shots had been fired and the lower parts of the Scottburgh’s central business district cordoned off.

Shortly after nightfall, an argument between two men broke out while they were in the company of two women near the Scottburgh police station.

When a policeman attempted to intervene and break up the argument, one of the men produced a knife.

“A civilian, who was drunk at the time, was fighting with his friend,” said Independent Police Investigative Directorate national spokesman, Moses Dlamini.

“A police officer intervened and the drunken man chased him into the police station yard.”

According to further reports, the drunken man – now brandishing two knives – then turned his attention to another policeman standing nearby and allegedly charged towards both police officers who, in self-defence, shot and killed the man.

Investigations continue.
