Pain and grief have overwhelmed the Sixikixa family from the Mzamba area following the murder of their daughter, Esona Sixikixa (16), popularly known as ‘Letta’ by her peers.
Esona was found stabbed to death next to the R61 in the Marina Beach area on Wednesday last week.
She had apparently been walking home from a friend’s house when she was attacked.
The grade 10 pupil, who attended Marina Junior Secondary School, was found after a neighbour went to investigate when he heard screams.

The teen was found lying in a pool of blood.
According to her sister Nasiphi Hogana, Esona was loved by everyone in her community, thanks to her friendly personality.
“We are deeply saddened by her death. This has shocked our entire family because we don’t understand why she had to be murdered like that,” Ms Hogana said.
The Herald also learnt that, in January, Esona’s brother had allegedly stabbed a man to death after an argument.
Following the incident, their home was set alight, allegedly by the brother of the murdered man.
“Both my brother and the brother of the dead man were arrested,” Ms Hogana said.
Police confirmed that a murder case had been opened against a 22-year-old suspect while a case of arson had been opened against another man.
The 22-year-old suspect has been released on bail, but police could not confirm whether or not the second suspect had been released.
Marina Junior Secondary School head, Bongani Gabisa said they were very disturbed by the incident as they had had no problems with Esona at school.
