You can help Joanne’s Angels make a difference in someone’s life

It all started in 2009 when Joanne, a Park Rynie resident and something of a local heroine, organised the first shoebox campaign, placing smiles on 200 children's faces and bringing much-needed joy to their lives.

FOR no other reason than to see people who have not received a gift in a long time smile in gratitude, Joanne Venter of Joanne’s Angels annually organises a shoe-box campaign to bring some joy to the lives of those in need.

Now, nearly 10 years later, Joanne’s Angels’ shoebox campaign is gearing up to include 200 men and women as well as 100 children and she says that if they can add more people to the list, they too will get something, but she needs your help to make that happen. Last year, a whopping total of 320 shoeboxes were handed out to those who had been registered on the feeding scheme. This year, Joanne and her team have their eyes set on a target of 300 boxes.

For those keen on helping those people to get some goodies this year – and these really are people who need it – the Mail has a few boxes available for collection if you are unable to make your own box. These boxes can be filled with soap, toothpaste, a toothbrush, something educational, a new clothing item, some sweets, a face cloth, a toy and deodorant. These boxes are for children and it is asked that those who would like to aid in the campaign specify whether the box donated is for a boy or girl, as well as what age

For adults, it is asked that people consider adding items such as toothpaste, a toothbrush, a facecloth, some sweets, biscuits, deodorant, soap and socks – again, please specify whether the box is applicable for a man or woman. The campaign officially closes on October 31 and Joanne’s Angels will start distributing the boxes to those in need toward the end of November.

A drop-off point for donations will be set up at the Scottburgh Mall on September 22, when Joanne’s Angels are expected to take part in the flea market which will be held at the mall. Alternatively, if you are unable to make it on the day, the Mail is also a designated drop-off point. For more information, Joanne Venter can be reached at 082-3377330.
