‘Lights out’ in St Mike’s as vandals continue to strike

The light poles have been erected five times in as many years.

St Mike’s resident Louis Wichmann says the broken light poles along Knox-Gore Road are an eye-sore.

The light poles which were erected along the road bordering the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre, have replaced five times in as many years, according to Mr Wichmann, who drives along this stretch of road daily.

“The light poles were erected two days before the Ugu Jazz Festival and were up for about two months before being vandalised,” he said, adding that poor workmanship is a contributing factor to this sad state of affairs.

The light poles appear to have snapped along Knox-Gore Road.

Another four or five light poles have been pulled out of the ground and are missing.

He wondered just how much money had been repeatedly thrown at this repair.

“Surely, after replacing the poles so many times, it’s time to realise it’s not worth it and stop replacing them,” he said.

No response was received from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesman, Simon April, at the time of going to print.
