Tweni Talk: Contradictory leak reports badly hamper repair job

Thanks go to councillors Leon Garbade and Selvan Chetty for getting involved and updating all residents concerned.

Tweni experienced water woes over the long weekend – the southern side was without water from last Friday to Saturday night.

The biggest concern was the difficulty in pinpointing where exactly the problem originated as there was a leak in Park Road and another was reported at the Umtentweni clinic.

Feedback was that they were waiting for a TLB to complete a repair in Pumula before they could start on Umtentweni’s leaks. There was one reported opposite the Caltex garage near the Old Tweni Hotel, but the most frustrating thing was that reports were contradictory and Ugu’s control centre did not answer phones. Thanks go to councillors Leon Garbade and Selvan Chetty for getting involved and updating all residents concerned.

Something fishy

Marcia McGarry discovered that three of her koi fish (about 10cm long) were missing from her fish pond, but suspects the ‘thief’ could be a fish eagle. Her dogs are very protective of the property, so it’s unlikely that someone took them. Congratulations and good luck to Marcia on her new appointment at St Martins de Porres. The children are lucky to have her as a teacher.

Take it easy

Stella Donald and Sheila Nel have been a bit ‘off colour’, as my gran used to say, but are both on the mend. Best wishes and get well soon.

Looking good

Your scribe bumped into Gordon Dickson at the shopping centre last week and he is looking fantastic after his stroke, except for a slight speech issue, but full recovery seems possible.

Happy holidays

Pupils countrywide are very excited about the imminent school holidays. For those going on holiday, please take care – there are a lot of crazy drivers on the roads.

Don’t forget

A reminder that the Muddy Boots market will take place on a Saturday in future and the first one kicks off on October 6.

Hip-hip hooray

Birthday wishes this week go to Liz Foster and David Rush (26th), Celia Comins (28th), Karen Olivant (29th), Andrew Thompson, Cindy Allan and Rob McQueen (30th) and Karen Jefferys on October 1st. Hope everyone enjoys an awesome birthday.
