IFP veteran Samson Nyawuza laid to rest
He was a teacher and principal at Mgamule High, chief inspector of schools, chief director, and deputy director general in the department of education in KwaZulu-Natal before he retired in 2004.
The IFP has described Dr Samson Nyawuza (77), a veteran who died last week after a long battle with illness, as an activist whose knowledge and expertise would live on.

Dr Nyawuza was a former Ugu District Municipality councillor and a veteran member of the IFP’s National Council.
His funeral took place at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre last Saturday.
The party’s national spokesman, Mkhuleko Hlengwa said Mr Nyawuza, who had a long academic and political career as a teacher and political activist, was a ‘trusted, loyal and wise leader who had dedicated his life to serving people’.
“In the various positions he held throughout his career, Dr Nyawuza always aspired to put people first and he advocated what was right at all times.”

According to the IFP, during times when schools were under siege, Dr Nyawuza sought to uphold the value of education and ensure that schools remained open and functional.
He was a teacher and principal at Mgamule High, chief inspector of schools, chief director, and deputy director general in the department of education in KwaZulu-Natal before he retired in 2004.
After matriculating at Adams College, Dr Nyawuza obtained a BA degree from the University of Zululand and a BA Hons at the same university.
He graduated with an MSc degree in education at the University of Kansas, USA in 1985 and satisfied the requirements for PhD in Education at Vista University in 1993.
“Throughout his career he was a loyal member of National Teachers Union, in which he held a number of positions, and also served as the president of the Association of African Inspectors of Education,” Mr Hlengwa said.
He was also a lay preacher of the United Congregational Church.
Dr Nyawuza is survived by his two wives, Christina and Constance, eight children and 16 grandchildren.
