Sheppie Snippets: Talking organic at breakfast meeting
A talk on farming will be on the menu.
The South Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold its next breakfast meeting at KC’s Coffee Shop, Main Road, Izotsha, on October 11 at 8.30am. Cost is R100 for members and R125 for non-members and includes an organic brunch.
Guest speakers include Diane Pieters, founder of Nemvelo Organic Farms, environmentalist Felicity Snyman, Grant Horak, a natural food aficionado and Andrew Dore, a farmer and organic fertiliser expert.

Navaratri
Navaratri also spelled Navarathri, is a Hindu festival celebrated in late September/early October each year. The dates of the festival are determined according to the lunar calendar. On the South Coast various temples will be observing the festival. The Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society started Pithar Paksh from September 25. The temple will observe Navaratri from Wednesday, October 10 to October 18. On October 18, members of the temple will observe Sri Durga Naumi and Kanya Pooja from 6.30pm. The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir will observe Navaratri from October 10 to 18 concluding with Virsajan on the 19th. Recitals, discourses and bhajans will be held. The temple invites everyone to the festival as various bhajan groups will entertain. Weekday prayers will be held at 6pm and weekend prayers at 3pm, with various bhajan groups taking part. On October 14 guest Acharayaju Sham Ramnauj will be rendering discourses from 3pm. Supper will be served on all nine days. For further information contact Veena Lakhan at 067 0688282.
Navaratri Committee
The Hibiscus Coast Navaratri Committee will once again host Shastriji Ramshusheel Chaturvedi at the Arya Samaj Hall from October 10 to 18. Daily recitations of the full 13 chapters of the Durga Saptashati, together with the Maha Yajna, will commence at 6pm on weekdays and at 3pm at weekends.
Kirtan and pachras of Devi Maa will be conducted by Vikesh Moonilal and an informative discourse on Navaratri will be presented by a special guest, Shameen Thakur Rajbansi, on Saturday October 13.
A prayer will be performed by senior citizens on Sunday October 14 and all senior devotees are welcome to attend.
Saraswati prayers will be performed by the youth on Tuesday, October 16 and all youth are welcome to bring their books for blessing. Kanya Pooja will take place the next day, October 17, followed by the Sahastra Archana (offering of 108 roses to Mother Durga) on Thursday, October 18 and concluding with a Visarjan at the Block in Port Shepstone at noon on Friday, October 19. Tamil Association
The Port Shepstone Tamil Association will observe Navarathiree prayer from next Wednesday, October 10 to Friday, October 19. Prayer will be conducted daily at the temple at 6.30pm. All are invited. For further information contact Radha Moodley at 071 483 5568.
Raam Bhajan
Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Alayam will be hosting its fourth Raam Bhajan on Saturday, October 13 from 2pm with a hawan, followed by its Purtassi prayer and Raam Bhajan at 7pm. Supper will be served. For further information contact 082 2937758.
