Political parties gear up for Gamalakhe by-election

The by-election is the second to be held following the deaths of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Ward 28 councillors Sibusiso Vanda and Andile Mncube.

The EFF, ANC and IFP are gearing up for yet another by-election in the Gamalakhe area.

Although the by-election takes place only on Wednesday, October 24, parties taking part will sign a code of conduct with the Independent Electoral Commission at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre tomorrow, Friday, October 5, said IEC regional spokesman, Siphiwe Yeni.

The by-election is the second to be held following the deaths of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Ward 28 councillors Sibusiso Vanda and Andile Mncube.

The councillors died within a few months of being sworn in at RNM council, after both had battled illness.

According to the IEC, the by-elections must be held within 90 days after a municipal ward council seat becomes vacant due to death, expulsion or resignation of a ward councillor.

The following candidates will stand: Musawenkosi Xolo (EFF), Victor Bhekithemba Zulu (ANC) and Lindeni Doyi Jama (IFP).

According to the IEC, the following stations will be open for voting: ZG Community Hall; International Assemblies (church), African Congregational Church and Sizokuhle Crèche.

Voting stations will be open from 7am to 5pm.
