Margate Moves: Inaugural AGM for urban development project

Take note the meeting is only open to Ramsgate ratepayers.

RATEPAYERS are urged to attend the inaugural annual general meeting of the Ramsgate Urban Development Precinct Non Profit Company.

The meeting takes place at the Lions’ Community Centre in Glenmarkie Road, on Monday, October 15 at 6pm.

Chairman, Simon Lee, said agendas will be distributed through the normal channels or ratepayers can email the NPC at rudpnpc@gmail.com for more information.

Another AGM

Ramsgate residents are cordially invited to attend the 17th annual general meeting of the Community Policing Forum. It will be held at the Lions’ Community Centre in Glenmarkie Drive on October 22 at 6pm.

Crime prevention strategies and projects undertaken by the forum will reported. If you need more information contact the secretary, Lucia Nkomo, at 039 3149400.

Hit and run

A motorcylist (52) was knocked off his bike by a light motor vehicle while travelling along Alford Road in Ramsgate last Sunday at about 8.30am.

It is reported that the driver of the light motor vehicle sped away.

Netcare 911 responded and the patient was treated at the scene for fractures and transported to hospital for further treatment.

Street party

If it is a Wednesday and it’s holiday season – it’s Mardi Gras time in Margate.

The street party takes place in Marine Drive, Margate tonight (Wednesday October 3) from 6pm.

There’s lots of unusual wares on offer and as always there is fabulous street food available. For more info about the Mardi Gras which is run by the Margate Business Association. Contact the organiser Corrie Wernick at 039 3172202.

Swing it

Abounding Hope, a community development NGO, holds its fund-raising golf day at Margate Country Club this Saturday (6th). Golfers are urged to support the sponsored day which offers great prizes including a weekend get-away from Anew Hotels and Safaris. Decades of Dylan

A brilliant show saluting six decades of the music of Bob Dylan takes place at Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate this Saturday (6th). Former South Coaster Oscar Swanlund will present `The Times They Are A-Changing’ tribute show to folk singer.

Oscar has mastered acoustic, electric and bass guitar and harmonica in the folk, folk rock and blues genres and the show enjoyed great success in Durban last month. Oscar says he has long had a penchant for Bob Dylan’s music and his show features all the protest poet’s best loved hits such as `Lay Lady Lay’, `Blowing in the Wind’ and `Mr Bojangles’.

Gates open at 6pm and the show starts at 8pm. Cash bar and good food will be available. Entry fee is R50 per person.

Tribute to a dame

The Residents Activities Committee (RAC) at Margate Retirement Village has another great supper theatre show coming up. It’s a fabulous tribute show featuring the dynamic Tonya Koenderman in `An Evening With Shirley Bassey’ . The Azalea Hall show takes place next Saturday (13th) at 7pm. Tickets, at R75 per person are on sale from the RAC or admin offices at the village or phone 039 3125000 to book. Pack a picnic supper and a few drinks and enjoy an evening of wonderful music. Doors open at 6pm.

Condolences

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of motoring man Johann Siecker who died on September 30. He will be remembered for the many years he spent at the family business Rensco Motors. Johann and his wife Elize moved to Free State a few years ago.
