Tweni Talk: Local lasses take on the trail

Kim, Lindalani and Moira took part in the trail run held at Rocky Bay last Sunday.

LOCAL lasses Kim Jones, Lindalani Itabor and Moira King took part in the trail run held at Rocky Bay last Sunday. Although it was hot and windy, yes – the October winds have arrived – it was a lot of fun. Moira and Lindalani entered the 20km run and Kim did the 12km one.

Fighting crime

After a recent increase in nocturnal house break-ins, the community congratulates the Saps for apprehending two suspicious guys carrying tools in Umtentweni. They were also found wearing four sets of clothing at the time. Thank you to Brigadier Sandra Nala for attending the Umtentweni CPF’s monthly meeting last week and for assuring us that the Saps are doing all that they can to fight crime in the area – ‘One crime is too many’.

Budding farmer

Your scribe thinks that the ‘farming bug’ has bitten young Ethan Prinsloo, who proudly reaped his first crop of tomatoes last week.

Young Ethan Prinsloo of Tweni is delighted with his first batch of home-grown tomatoes.

Welcome back

Glenda and Marcel Schutgens have just spent a month in the Netherlands and will arrive home today (Wednesday) after ‘house swapping’ with a Dutch couple. Former residents Richard and Alida Manuel and their daughters Joline and Suzanne recently spent some time with family in Tweni. The family relocated to Hamilton, New Zealand, about 10 years ago.

Some enchanted evening

Derick Celliers reports that the Umtentweni Bowling Club recently held a well-supported, fun and enjoyable Caribbean dinner/dance for members and guests. Bright colours and leis were the order of the day and it was really good to see so many ‘oldies’ on the dance floor, showing off moves from the 60s and 70s. A big vote of thanks to Marie Pick, Nellie Davies and all helpers for a fabulous evening.

Three cheers

Happy anniversary to Kelvin and Anita Hulley, Julie and Donovan Solomon and Cynthia and Alan Dean for October 1. Birthday wishes go to Marcel Schutgens (3rd), Delvin Allan (4th), Jean Masson (5th) and Tarryn Schlehmeyer on the 8th.

Former Tweni residents (from left) Joline, Alida, Richard and Suzanne Manuel spent a day at uShaka Marine World in Durban, while on their recent three-week visit to South Africa.

All news to Leila.
