Property Port agents open their hearts to feed the hungry

Hibiscus Food for Life, a non-profit organisation, currently feeds some 1 000 people every week in Marburg, Port Shepstone, Palmview, Hibberdene and Bhobhoyi.

Property Port agents generously dug deep (again) and presented a cheque for R10 000 to Hibiscus Food For Life last Thursday.

Rajen Mahbeer of Hibiscus Food For Life has been feeding the hungry for more than 20 years.

The non-profit organisation currently feeds some 1 000 people every week in Marburg, Port Shepstone, Palmview, Hibberdene and Bhobhoyi.

Mr Mahbeer said the organisation had also recently started feeding 200 pupils at Mdlazi Primary.

“The principal and governing body wrote a thank you letter to us. They said that some of the pupils come from very disadvantaged backgrounds, and that having a nutritious meal was an absolute luxury for them. They also told us how our feeding scheme had improved their health and their performance in school. They appreciate the food immensely.

“Due to the economic challenges, many more families are struggling to feed themselves. It costs us R20 000 per month to sustain this feeding project, and we appeal to the community to donate generously to this project.”

Anyone who would like to help is asked to contact Mr Mahbeer at 082 8362758.
