Men get mightier with God at conference

Inspired by Angus Buchan, this year's theme was 'Priesthood' and it was an excellent opportunity for fellowship with men from other parts of the area, as they learned how to incorporate a Christian mindset into their everyday lives.

The second local annual Mighty Men Conference, held at Southcity Church last weekend, was a wonderful time of spiritual growth and strengthening for men from around the South Coast.

Inspired by Angus Buchan, this year’s theme was ‘Priesthood’ and it was an excellent opportunity for fellowship with men from other parts of the area, as they learned how to incorporate a Christian mindset into their everyday lives.

One man who attended said the conference was exactly what he needed.

Ross and Joshua Douthwaite read a Bible verse.

“The dynamic and engaging presentation of the Gospel totally connected with me. I took notes, and was challenged that the Christian faith was intellectually credible in the secular arena of life.”

Organiser Hennie Forbes said he always looked forward to the annual event.

“It’s a tremendous day. We have fathers who bring sons and sons who bring their fathers.”

He added that true manhood was sacrificing for others, and pointed out that men needed to build good habits which would sustain them.

He reiterated that God used circumstances in our everyday lives to bring us closer to Him.

“He uses our understanding of ourselves to help us establish our true identity. This conference was a time to learn about our true calling.”

Johan van Backström addresses the large gathering of men.

Mr Forbes said it was planned to hold the conference annually for the next five years, following the tremendous success of this year’s event.
