Massive sinkhole in Park Rynie puts lives at risk

St Francis Primary School is on this road so pupils are at risk.

The entrance to School Circle in Park Rynie has sported a gigantic sinkhole for months now.

It seems that nothing is being done to repair the road and this could lead to a motorist or pedestrian getting hurt. If drivers do not see the massive hole in time, they could suffer extensive damage to their vehicles and would have to bear heavy costs.

Pedestrians could also fall in and injure themselves if they were not paying attention to where they were walking. This area was previously cordoned off with tape, but that vanished several months ago.

It must also be noted that St Francis Primary School is on this road so pupils are the main users of this road. These children could easily fall into this hole if not careful or when playing and the smaller ones might not even be able to climb out because of the depth of this hole.

Besides being a danger to many, the sinkhole is also becoming a dump.

Early signs of dumping are visible and garbage could overflow onto the street, polluting the area and possibly becoming a health hazard, especially to the children.

Umdoni Municipality has been contacted on the matter. Should they provide comment, it will be included in next week’s issue.
