It’s now up to everyone in the community to go and buy a bag hand painted by school children – from Merlewood Primary, Jai Hind Primary, Margate Primary, St Martin de Porres, Cornerstone Learning Centre, Hlangani Preparatory, Port Shepstone Junior Primary, Christopher Robin, South City Christian Academy and Izotsha Primary – and beautifully embellished by the senior citizens.

All funds raised will go towards purchasing a classroom for Zenzeleni Crèche in Izingolweni.
A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last Friday, September 28, which was attended by Her Worship the Mayor, Councillor Cynthia Mqwebu, teachers, Matilda Ngcobo, who heads up the crèche and other important role players.
Cllr Mqwebu thanked Shelly Centre and thought what everyone was doing for Zenzeleni Crèche was very touching.

The Pop-Up Shop space was kindly given to Shelly Centre and the community to use by Johan Naude of The Hub.
Mr Naude said he loved the look of the shop and what had been done to transform the empty shop space.
“It looks amazing and this project has brought the community to the centre,” he said.
At the opening, Kirstin Rowbotham, marketing manager of Shelly Centre, said the ‘We Care You Care’ project was about the centre wanting to invest in the community and thanked everyone for making this project possible.

She said that despite all the great work of Matilda Ngcobo, who heads up the crèche, she operates from an old building that has toilet facilities in need of an upgrade, only one large classroom and a small ‘babies room’, all for 100 children!
Mrs Ngcobo said she was happy about the project and was learning from it, as they could do a similar kind of project in their area to generate an income.
Investing in a container classroom will allow the teachers at Zenzeleni Crèche to separate the age groups into more age-appropriate learning environments.
This incredible project was born thanks to Zenzeleni, one of the Network Action Group’s (NAG) early childhood development centres, which put Zenzeleni Crèche in touch with Breadline Africa and Shelly Centre.
By buying a bag you not only help towards purchasing a classroom, but also help save this planet from global warming and contribute to developing socially responsible generations to come.
