Everyone’s invited to join the Wessa walks
Not only does Wessa keep a watchful eye on all matters concerning wildlife and the environment in the area, members also love going for walks.
The Lower South Coast branch of the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (Wessa) keeps a watchful eye on all matters concerning wildlife and the environment in the area, attending public meetings and engaging with all parties who might have an impact on the region.

The Wessa motto is ‘People Caring for the Earth’, and each month the society also arranges walks.
On October 3, a small group met at the beautiful Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve in South Durban.
The weather predictions kept all but the most hardy away but, under the leadership of Paddy Norman and Dorothy McIntyre, those who walked were kept informed of local history, geology, fauna and flora.

Although the rains came down a short way into the walk, they continued undaunted, winding their way through the reserve’s trails seeing herds of impala and zebra as well as many species of bird.
As usual, the walk ended with a picnic, albeit this time in the shelter of their cars, before they returned home to the South Coast.
Walks take place regularly, encompassing most of the gems of the South Coast.

Wessa welcomes everyone interested in learning about the local environment while walking the beautiful trails in the area.
The next walk will be on October 20 or 21, with details to follow.
