Shelly Beach property developing well

The developer, Errol Milton, has successfully flattened the massive piles of rubble and covered the large flat open piece of prime land with sand.

A property in Marine Drive, Shelly Beach has been radically transformed by developer Errol Milton (70) and his team since the Herald last reported on it in August this year.

Mr Milton has flattened the massive piles of rubble and covered the large, flat open piece of prime land with sand. He plans to grass it and build a tea garden and nursery.

“When people see rubble they immediately think it’s a mess,” he said.

Mr Milton, who is developing the land for his brother, Michael, has been in the development game for some 50 years. He is, however, needing more sand, and welcomes any donations.

He said he had also been given the green light by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, following a site visit made because the disposal of rubble was located within a wetland area.

The department’s hydrological assessment concluded the infilling with building rubble on the bottom part of the property had taken place within a lowland wetland area.

“However, due to infilling and compacting with building rubble onsite, it is difficult to determine the extent of the wetland conditions and boundary. It is therefore recommended that precautionary approaches be applied for future development in the area,” read the assessment.
