Swift arrest after Sheppie robbery

The woman was reportedly sprayed with an 'unknown substance'.

Three suspects aged between 28 and 40 years are due to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on charges of robbery.

They were arrested on Monday this week after they robbed a woman of an undisclosed sum of cash at a shopping centre in Port Shepstone.

The woman went to deposit cash when the criminals struck. Police spokesman, Captain Nqobile Gwala said as the woman was about to enter the bank, she was approached by two men who reportedly sprayed her with an unknown substance before taking her cash, bank register and a cheque made out for R1 000.

The cash was meant to be deposited at a bank in Port Shepstone.

“The suspects fled in a waiting getaway vehicle. Local police were immediately alerted began searching for the vehicle. Other police units in the area were also mobilised and the vehicle was spotted and intercepted,” said Captain Gwala.

Two suspects managed to flee on foot but were later arrested. The third suspect was arrested inside the vehicle. The stolen cash, the bank register and cheque were recovered.
