Weekend woes

Tweni certainly had its fair share of woes last weekend – from children’s bicycles being stolen off patios to lack of water. Wendy Beukes and Janet Proctor reported a tap had broken off at the beach ablution block late last Saturday. With the assistance of Leon Garbade, RNM and Ugu, the problem was sorted out, but on Sunday morning, another water issue arose with a burst pipe in Commercial Road. A river of water could be seen between the recycling bins and railway tracks and everyone woke up to low pressure or no water. Ugu had earth-moving machines out for most of the day – repositioning bins and uprooting wild palms to uncover the leak below the ground. Some patients from the nearby clinic used the secluded section behind the palms as an ablution block and now, with that privacy gone, what they will use in future?

Take note

Please remember to set house alarms even when you are home – brazen thieves are now entering yards and houses during the day. Warn staff about letting strangers into the yard and call upon security companies to respond when there is suspicious or unusual activity.

Great gift

The 2019 Umtentweni calendars are now on sale, so don’t forget to order one. All proceeds go towards the camera upgrade. Contact your scribe at 082 3761853 to order – they will make a marvellous, useful Christmas gift for that person who has everything.

Protect our wildlife

Kaye Whitwam says that her children saw a small red duiker in Commercial Road near Hampton Mews last Saturday morning, but soon afterwards a husky went after the buck. Please keep your dogs secure in the yard to discourage wildlife in the area being hunted.

First catch

The Solomon family spent last Sunday morning out at sea, diving and swimming and having a wonderful time. Young Kyle managed to spear his first fish.
