Man arrested after looting woman’s Umzumbe home – firearms recovered

Investigations led police and security guards into the bushes where the suspect was hiding.

A MAN (28) was arrested in Umzumbe on Thursday this week for housebreaking and theft, as well as being in the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Southport police and K9 Unit, together with a security company, were involved in the arrest.

Personal property, including bags, clothes, handguns and three shotguns were stolen from the home in Ridge View, Umzumbe.

The 51-year-old woman residing there returned from work on Thursday evening to find her house had been looted.

“The suspect allegedly forced the door open using a sharp instrument,” said  police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.

The stolen property recovered by police and a security company.

The woman reported the incident to police and the search began.

Investigations led police and security guards into the bushes where the suspect was still in hiding with the stolen property.

He was then arrested and charged and will appear at Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court this coming Monday, November 19.
