Circle of Friendship celebrates 10 years

There have been many activities provided by the group since its inception.

In an age when it is easy to keep in touch and stay in contact, the elderly can feel forgotten.

In 2008 The Circle of Friendship was born at Margate Retirement Village, and it has grown to provide nine different activities in Hibiscus Frail Care, offered by more than 50 volunteers, 10 years on.

Weekly exercise sessions were provided back then, but other activities have been introduced and are still active today.

These include welcome visits with flowers for the women and gifts for men relocating to frail care. There are also birthday visits to each resident, with a card. Crossword corner is held three times a week.

The Circle’s Linda Scott, said, “Tog bags were purchased to assist with emergency hospital admissions and included a hospital pack of essential toiletries. I would like to thank management, Matron Watkins and all those who have supported this initiative over the years and acknowledge the efforts of all volunteers, past and present who have helped shape The Circle of Friendship to what it has become today.”
