The initiative, driven by the Margate Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association (MRRA) is expected to create excitement among the residents and visitors ahead of the December festivities.

MRRA chairman Barry Smit said he was really looking forward to seeing some impressive decorations in shop windows in the town this holiday.

“It’s an amazing project and a great opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves,” he said.

The competition will officially start on December 1 and the winners will be announced on December 20 in the South Coast Herald and via social media.

“The project is one of the various initiatives the MRRA has in the pipeline to beautify the town and make Margate great again,” said Mr Smit.

He thanked sponsors Margate Sands and Michael Frey’s Fresh Meat for the prizes.

Prizes include a two-day midweek holiday in Ballito, half a lamb, and a boneless gammon.
