A woman in her late fifties was reportedly raped outside a restaurant in Umtentweni at around 9pm last night (Friday).
According to Lazer 911 security spokesman, Basil Lanka reaction Officers Robbie Pypers and Tiaan Vermeulen went to the restaurant to standoff when they were stopped by a man who asked if they could help him to look for his wife.

“The man said his wife had gone out for a smoke and had not returned. Shortly after he and the officers began searching they heard a woman crying for help. Backup was called and together with reaction officer Sarel Maree, officers Pypers and Vermeulen found the woman behind the restaurant, ” said Mr Lanka.
At this stage it is believed that she was raped by two men. One of the men was arrested by the reaction officers while the other escaped.
The suspect was handed over to Port Shepstone police. The search for the second suspect continues.
Confirmation and an official statement from the police are awaited as the communications officer is attending a funeral.
