Tweni Talk: Packaging company has it all wrapped up
The company was nominated as a finalist in the Fast Growth category at the recent National Business Awards.
PORTLAND Packaging (Pty) Ltd was nominated as a finalist in the Fast Growth category at the recent National Business Awards held at Emperor’s Palace. Nina Deysel says, “We did not win the award, but we did receive a certificate and just being present at such a prestigious event made us proud to be there representing the South Coast – proving the nickname ‘slow coast’ wrong. The South Coast is very quickly becoming an industrial and business hub”.

Diarise the date
The social calendar is filling up quickly. News from Sandy Collins is that the Bendigo Troupers is holding its Christmas concert entitled ‘Memories, Music, Magic’ at the Anerley Service Centre tomorrow (Thursday, 22nd) at 9.30am. Entrance is free but a donation to Meals on Wheels would be greatly appreciated. Refreshments will be served after the show. And if anyone would like to join the choir, there is no experience required. See Sandy Collins after the show or call her at 060 9448257 or 039 6812219. Come along and enjoy a fun morning.
Note the date change
The Friends of Southport Library has rescheduled its monthly talk for next Friday, November 30, at 10 for 10.30am. These talks are normally held on the last Thursday of the month, but the library hall was not available, hence the change of date. Local environmentalist Alex Skene will deliver the talk and provide a fascinating insight into the habits of owls. All are welcome. Tea and eats will be served in the hall afterwards.
See the show
Steph Bennett invites everyone to The Golden Singers’ Christmas programme at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church hall on December 5 at 5 for 5.30pm.
The choir will be accompanied by an orchestra comprising piano, keyboard, trumpet, violin and various percussion instruments.
A small entrance fee of R15 is charged, which goes towards nominated charities. Refreshments will be served.
RIP Dawie
Sincerest condolences to Sharon Schlebush and family on the death of Dawie. Septuagenarian Dawie, a retired Standard Bank employee and well-known sportsman, died in the early hours of Monday morning this week.
Be aware
With the holiday season upon us please be more aware of what is happening around you. Also warn friends and family. Keep gates closed and do not leave valuables in your car. Park in secure areas where there are a lot of people. Listen to your animals – they will always give the first warning. Do not take any valuables to the beach. Lock the house and activate alarms when you leave – even if only for a few minutes. Dispose of boxes and wrappings from presents in a manner that does not draw attention to new items worth stealing. For instance, big appliance boxes should be cut up and put into recycling bins rather than out on the verge with the garbage. Remember recycling bags are free and can be obtained from the municipality, JB Licencing at JTV Centre or from Homemaker’s Hardware in Sea Park.
Happy birthday
Birthdays this week are Di Visser (24th), Larry Larraman (25th) and Beulah Girdwood (27th).
All news to Leila.
