Festive year-end party for Lighthouse senior citizens

The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the Sari Queen.

Lighthouse Community Services held it’s festive year-end function at Marburg Secondary last Saturday.

The highlight of the evening was definitely the Sari Queen contest, which was won by Mamitha Singh of Marburg.

Chairman of the association, Sunil Singh, said the function was an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of the older generation to society.

“Lighthouse Community Services salutes our senior citizens. They are the founding pillars of our community and this event is to pay tribute and celebrate the vital role they play, both in the family and in the community.”

Having a splendid time are (from left) Soni Seetharam, Madhagie Chetty, Samira Khan and Gonam Naidoo.

He explained that this non-profit organisation was formed in March 2015 and its primary objectives are to engage senior citizens in activities that will keep their bodies fit and minds sharp, paying regular visits to their homes, providing them with food parcels, encouraging awareness campaigns to remind the community to respect their elders and to assist with lessening the living expenses incurred by the elderly.

Thanking Miss Teen Commonwealth first princess Tarusha Gounder of Marburg (middle) for attending the function are Lighthouse Community Services member Amanda Tharamaseelan and chairman Sunil Singh.

Mr Singh thanked everyone who helped to make this function magical for the seniors.
