New look, new feel for old favourite

The new-look Pumphouse has a family-orientated feel.

Set in the heart of Manaba, the Pumphouse Family Restaurant and Bar was officially relaunched last Wednesday.

Under the new ownership of Craig Zaayman, an economist and financial market strategist formerly from Pretoria, this eatery and bar won’t be your run-of-the-mill restaurant.

Loving the new vibe at the Pumphouse Family Restaurant and Bar are (from left) Abigail Redelinghuys, Mona Burger and Benice Burger.

The finer details of the menu are still in the works but it will definitely feature a range of delightful dishes cooked by the restaurant’s master chef, Michelle van Tonder.

The menu will also cater for the business lunch crowd with faster, healthier food. Craig explained the Pumphouse was the original building that housed the pump that provided water to the Margate area, hence its name. “This building is 112 years old and, once I have completed all the changes, I plan to have it declared a heritage site,” added Craig.

Welcoming guests to the relaunch are (from left) Pumphouse Family Restaurant and Bar’s Zade Schwartz (general manager), Michelle van Tonder (chef) and Craig Zaayman (owner).

“The Pumphouse has over the years gained a reputation for being slightly ‘dodgy’, but we are working hard to change that perception by making it a family-orientated restaurant with a children’s area, a cocktail bar with a slight Malibu or Reggae feel, more ablution facilities, a wheelchair friendly entrance and a walkway from the restaurant directly onto the beach.”

Enjoying the wonderful view from the deck are (from left) Brian McCarthy, Roger Seath and Ronnie Campbell.

In the future, Craig hopes to grow the Pumphouse brand, via franchises, in a few carefully- selected areas.
