Load shedding is back – and it’s moved to Stage 2

Eskom has however added that this will only come into effect 'if absolutely necessary'.

Eskom has announced today (Friday) that the risk of load shedding has moved from Stage 1 to Stage 2, with immediate effect.

It added however that this will only be implemented if ‘absolutely necessary’.

The power utility said there is a high probability of Stage 2 rotational load shedding from 9am until 10pm today as a result of loss of additional units overnight.

Stage 2 calls for 2000mw to be rotationally  shed nationally during a given period,  as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

Eskom has encouraged residents and businesses to please use electricity sparingly to ease the demand. It calls on the public to switch off geysers during the day as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.

For Eskom customers, these schedules are available on the Eskom website. Eskom customers can also contact 0860 037 566.

Municipal customers can contact Ray Nkonyeni Municipality at 093 688 2000.
