Season to be jolly
South Coasters are spoilt for choice when it comes to Christmas celebrations – there are many events on offer to ensure the season will be a festive one.
`A Lot Like Christmas’ is a fabulous supper theatre show to be staged at the Azalea Hall at Margate Retirement Village this Saturday (1st).
Durban singer Samantha Landers, pianist Evan Roberts, musical theatre performer, Anthony Downing as well as surprise performers will take the audience on musical trip featuring much-loved classics as well as a few carols with a modern twist. It’s guaranteed to leave everyone feeling warm and fuzzy. Pack a picnic supper and a few drinks – remember to take along your own utensils and glasses. Doors open at 6pm which gives everyone plenty of time to enjoy their supper and the show starts at 7pm. Tickets at R80 per person are on sale from the RAC or admin offices at the village. Phone 039 3125701 or 039 3125812 for more information and to book.
Choral concert
The Hibiscus Choir’s first of two concerts `The Gift of Christmas’ received warm applause and reviews. It was held at the Ronnie Baker Hall at the village last Sunday.
The talented choir will be back on stage – this time at the Ramsgate Lions’ Village Hall in Glenmarkie Road this Saturday (1st) at 6pm. This will be a supper-theatre outing and patrons can take along a packed supper or snacks. A cash bar will be available. Tickets cost R30 per person.
Tree lighting
To mark the season of joy, Southbroom Tennis Club will hold an advent celebration at the club this Sunday (2nd) where traditional Christmas cookies and stollen will be on sale from 4.30pm. The lighting of the Christmas tree in Eyles Park (located next to the tennis club) will take place at dusk. For more information contact Cheryl at 083 2405871.

And Eyles Park is also the venue for the Southbroom Conservancy’s annual `Carols by Candlelight’ service. Save the date – December 23 from 5.30pm. Winston Smile will lead the carol singing and it is `rumoured’ that Santa might pop in to sing along too.
Another Southbroom event to diarise is the conservancy dinner. It takes place at the golf clubhouse on December 20 at 6pm. Along with dinner there’s a cabaret performance, wine tasting and an auction. Book through the golf club.
Och aye
Don’t forget to join the Scots to celebrate St Andrew’s Day this Friday (30th). The South Coast Caledonian Society is holding a bonny bash at Cafe Munro (Margate Retirement Village) at 6.30pm.
Dress is formal and tickets cost R100 for members and R120 for non-members (includes a three-course meal) and a cash bar will be available. The Margate Pipes and Drums will provide traditional music. Tickets can be bought and booked at the Elna Shop at the Shelly Centre.
Date change
Take note the South African Air Force Association (Saafa) has had to postpone its annual Christmas lunch by a week. It has been rescheduled to take place at Cafe Munro at the Margate Retirement Village next Sunday (9th).
