Driver’s licence delays continue

A dispute has led to a nationwide backlog.

Motorists who have still not received their driver’s licence card, and whose temporary licences have expired, may have to reapply for another temporary licence.

This announcement was made by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality who said the local office has informed the province there is currently a delay with the production of driving licence cards.

As a result, motorists who have not received their driver’s licence card are anxious about being fined at a festive season roadblock.

In October this year, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport informed the public it was experiencing a delay in the manufacture of cards since July.

The department said motorists must ensure they renew their driver’s licence well in advance, or apply for temporary licences due to this delay.

But in October the municipality could still not give an indication as to when the delay would be resolved, as it was a national problem.

It is now December and the problems still persists.

It is believed a labour dispute led to the nationwide backlog in the issuing of these cards, with some motorists having to wait for up to four months.
