Southbroom Tennis Club celebrates advent with traditional treats

It was a family-friendly event.

Everyone was invited to a traditional beginning of advent celebration with coffee and cake at the Southbroom Tennis Club last Sunday.

Stollen and Christmas cookies were on sale with the lighting of the Christmas tree at Eyles Park in Southbroom taking place at dusk.

Choirmaster Pippa Bromley-Gans said advent season evoked a festive feeling in everyone. “It was a cheerful gathering with carols, letters written by children to Baby Jesus and treats given out. This festive time before Christmas tells the biblical story through singing, dancing and musical accompaniment.”

Jos Neaves of Southbroom said celebrating advent before Christmas at the tennis club is her favourite part of the holiday. “The wonderful thing about advent is that it can be marked in so many different ways. The tennis club kept it child-friendly so that they could understand and enjoy it.”
