NSRI assists in search for teen swept out to sea at Mfazana
The search for the 14-year-old continues.
NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach dispatched rescue swimmers to Mfazana beach on Boxing Day, December 26, to join SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue and Med-Evac ambulance services following reports of a drowning in progress.
An extensive search for a 14-year-old boy has revealed no sign of the teenager and emergency services will continue with an ongoing search operation.
NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach responded to Ramsgate’s Blue Lagoon following reports of a drowning in progress, also on Boxing Day.

The sea rescue craft Spirit of Dawn was launched and found that lifeguards had rescue three people, a man aged 55, a woman aged 21, and a man aged 29, from the surf after they were caught in rip currents.
Krishca Venter, NSRI Shelly Beach duty controller, said the lifeguards had all three on their rescue rubber-duck as well as a lifeguard, aged 20, who had swum out to assist the them in the surf.
NSRI took the three swimmers and the lifeguard onto their sea rescue craft.
The lifeguard rescue rubber-duck, with the remaining two lifeguard crew onboard, returned to the beach and everyone was brought safely ashore.
And just after midday, NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach responded with the sea rescue craft Spirit of Dawn to assist the commercial boat, ‘My Dear’ experiencing motor failure off Shelly Beach.
An NSRI rescue swimmer was transferred onto My Dear and three passengers were transferred from ‘My Dear’ onto the sea rescue craft and were brought to shore.
‘My Dear’ was able to come in safely to the beach on one motor without incident.
