Choccie ‘chipped’ and reunited with relieved owner

The SPCA urges pet owners to consider microchipping their animals and says that despite the once-off fee of R240, it is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Michelle Hannan of the Amanzimtoti and Scottburgh SPCA is appealing to the public to have their beloved pets microchipped. One such case that had a happy ending due to microchipping is that of Choccie, a dachshund who had been missing for three months.

Little Choccie was found wandering on the N2 freeway by a motorist and brought into the SPCA. Although poor Choccie was in a terrible way, it was later established that he was microchipped. “We managed to retrieve his owner’s details and called her immediately,” said Michelle.

Dog owner Adele van den Bergh on being told Choccie was alive and well by the SPCA proceeded to break down in tears. “She rushed to pick him up and it was heart-warming sight,” said Michelle adding that “it’s all thanks to Choccie being microchipped.”
