Recycle your way to a greener future

Recycling requires less energy which helps preserve natural resources and is beneficial for future generations too.

RECYCLING plays an important role in our environment as it reduces the amount of waste and pollution on our streets and in our landfills.

When there is a build-up of waste, such as landfill sites, there are harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses that are released into the environment.

Recycling reduces the number of raw materials required by industry, for example, paper from trees.

If paper is recycled, trees would be preserved and there would be little destruction to our habitat and that of animals. One of the contributing factors in global warming is deforestation so recycling will greatly assist in this area too.

A large amount of energy is required when making products from raw materials. Recycling requires less energy which helps preserve natural resources and is beneficial for future generations too.

In order to promote recycling, recycling bins can be placed in public areas and not just individually in homes and a recycling group can be formed to oversee the project. Many local restaurants and stores are playing a large part in the recycling initiative and have cut back on their use of plastic by opting for paper straws instead of plastic ones.

The recycling area at Scottburgh Mall was recently closed down as it was not being utilised for its intended purpose.

The area had morphed into a spot for vagrants, illegal drinking and the dumping of household waste. This led to the mall management calling it quits on the service they were providing to the public free of charge.

There has been talk of a recycling group starting up in Scottburgh but until such a time as this initiative takes place, the closest recycling area is Pennington.
