Moms enjoy special treat in Port Edward

An outing to Mpenjati Nature Reserve was organised by Lighthouse Community Services.

Lighthouse Community Services is an active non-profit organisation that truly ‘adds light’ to local communities by supporting the vulnerable, empowering disadvantaged individuals, and addressing critical needs.

The organisation has been in operation for the last 10 years. Recently, seniors were treated to a special Mothers’ Day outing to Mpenjati Nature Reserve in Port Edward.

They were taken on a bus trip to the reserve for a day filled with fun and games, and not forgetting, to honour their resilience and wisdom.

The organisation’s chairman, Sunil Singh, said that many of the elderly mothers were simply too happy to take the trip.

“It is a token of appreciation for what our seniors have given back to us over the decades by their generous example and community spirit. We want to let our seniors know that they have a place of value in our hearts. This outing emphasised that ageing is a privilege, and focused on treating our mothers with the dignity and adoration they deserve,” explained Singh.

Enjoying the fun and games are Brenda Leonard and Shamilla Perdessi.

He added that all mothers are warriors. “They live their lives with hardship and treating them like royalty for a day was our pleasure. They were treated to many activities, scrumptious lunch, music, dance and vouchers to make them feel cherished on their special day.”

Singh thanked sponsors and his team for making the event a success.

Discourses are held every second Saturday of the month at the Marburg Community Policing Forum hall, next to the Marburg Sports Complex.
