Gaping hole could endanger lives

To add to the problem, the hole is filling with water and is being used as a rubbish receptacle which may soon make it a health hazard as well.

The massive hole in Marine Drive, Park Rynie near St Francis Primary School is putting lives at risk.

This giant hole, left after Ugu repaired a burst pipe some weeks ago, has still not been attended to.

It is believed that an electrical cable was also damaged during the repair, and according to some local councillors, Eskom had said it was Umdoni Municipality’s responsibility to fix the problem.

This hole is now a danger not only to motorists, but to pedestrians and animals as well.

Due to its enormous size, motorists travelling in that lane are forced to stop and move into the oncoming traffic lane in order to safely negotiate the obstacle.

And even though the area is cordoned off with tape, there is always the danger of  pedestrians falling into the hole.

Pupils from the nearby school are also at risk of  injury when walking or playing nearby.

To add to the problem, the hole is filling with water and is being used as a rubbish receptacle which may soon make it a health hazard as well.
