Health awareness day brings free basic care to the community

Services offered included HIV counselling and testing, TB screening and testing, diabetes and hypertension screening, nutritional assessment and pregnancy testing.

The Port Shepstone Clinic Committee invited all community members to a health awareness day at the Radiant Life Ministries church in Palmview last Saturday.

The health awareness day offered HIV counselling and testing, TB screening and testing, diabetes and hypertension screening, nutritional assessment and pregnancy testing.

All services were provided free of charge.

Sister Ashnie Moodley from the Port Shepstone Clinic said healthcare should be accessible to every patient who needs it. “It should not only be for those who can pay. Regrettably, this is not a reality for all. By holding this awareness day we strive to eliminate disparities and barriers related to access and standards of health care.”

She mentioned that a notable increase in health problems had been observed and that switching to a healthy lifestyle is of utmost importance. “A healthy lifestyle not only makes you look and feel better but also provides a number of health benefits.”
