Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court finally sentenced Wen Guo for a crime he had committed back in 2015.
The 43-year-old was caught speeding at 183kms per hour on the N2 Freeway near Ellingham in the Umzinto district by Road Traffic Inspectorate officers on January 4, 2015.

He was released on R3000 bail which was forfeited to the state when he failed to appear at his next court hearing.
He was later arrested in Kempton Park.
It was then discovered that his failure to appear in court previously was because there was no interpreter available. He is of Chinese nationality with a limited understanding of English.
He pleaded guilty on Wednesday, March 6, saying he was rushing to a family emergency at the time of the offence.

“Sometimes when one is in such a rush to go home, they might never reach home because of speeding,” said Magistrate Elsophie Botha pointed out.
He was sentenced to a fine of R12 000 or 12 months’ imprisonment, with half suspended for five years.
He was allowed to keep his licence.
