Mob metes out rough justice near Mtwalume

The man was thought to have raped a seven-year-old girl.

A vigilante attack in Turton, near Mtwalume on Monday this week has left a man dead.

Police spokesman, Captain Nqobile Gwala said a case was opened at Hibberdene police station after a seven-year-old child was allegedly raped by a someone known to her and who was watching TV at her home on Monday night.

“When the family went to sleep, he allegedly raped the child. An older relative then screamed for help.

“The community severely assaulted the 35-year-old man when he tried to flee. The police were contacted but he died before medical assistance arrived,” said Capt Gwala.

A case of murder has been opened for investigation.
