Top groups set to perform at Ramsgate’s Rocky Ridge

Ramsgate's iconic music venue has lined up a packed programme for the Easter weekend.

Zebra, a Pretoria-based band, self-described as the wayward love-child of comedic rock and indie music. The herd, as they’re affectionately known, weave a fantastic story with their original songs and catchy lyrics, all the while making everyone in the house dance. Comprising Siphe Mashigo (lead vocals), Wildré (Wim) van Deventer (rhythm guitar – acoustic or electric as well as lead vocals and kick drum – for acoustic shows), Ivan van Heerden (bass guitar) and Duncan Potgieter (drums) kick off the weekend this Friday (19th).

Their gig starts at 8pm but the venue and kitchen will be open from 6pm. Entry is R40.

More great entertainment will come from Shackles and Bones which has embarked on its `Concentration Holiday Tour’ and will make a stop-over at the Ridge this Saturday (20th).

The regional tour spanning across three provinces – Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng is aimed at showcasing the group’s multi-faceted performance to a broad, new audience.

Catch Shackle and Bones when they make a `pit-stop’ on their Concentration Tour at Rocky Ridge this Saturday (20th). Entry is R40 and the band will be on stage from 8pm.

Shackles and Bones (formed in 2010) has impressed with its ability to draw from multiple genres and influences to produce a sound that manifests a desire for genre fusion coupled with contemporary sounds. Lead singer and guitarist David Glover mixes funk-jazz chord progressions with sensual and soulful vocals, all while supported by the indestructibly groovy rhythm section comprising Argentine-born drummer, Julián Arenzon, and lion-person Steven Ellery on the bass.

Band members are often seen prancing around the stage in colourful costumes, wigs and makeup. Entry is also R40 and Shackles and Bones will be on stage from 8pm.

Local group Jacob’s Saw headline at the Sunday Blues session this Sunday (21st). No entry fee and the venue will open at midday – the band performs from 1pm.
