It was podium finishes for three students of the South Coast Mixed Martial Arts Academy at the South African Mixed Martial Arts National Championships 2026 in Vanderbiljpark in Gauteng recently.
Zian Sukkels (13) from Port Edward competed in the Youth C under 44kg division and achieved a silver medal.
He also competed in the South African National Kickboxing Championships 2026 in Oudtshoorn, prior to the champs, and achieved a gold medal in the kick light junior under 42kg division.
Thandolwethu Hlophe (16) from Boboyi competed in the Youth A featherweight 65.8kg division and also achieved a silver medal.Wilmarie Alberts (38) from Margate competed in the female lightweight 70.3kg division and brought home a gold medal.
The students trained under Nkosi Doyisa, the founder and head coach of the academy in Boboyi. He is a former Maximum Fighting Champions amateur middleweight title holder and current professional fighter signed to Extreme Fighting Champions.
Noticeably, seven of the students at the academy were selected to represent the province at the provincial trial held in Durban earlier in the year. Sadly, not all could attend the tournament due to the cost factor.
