Batteries are hot property for Sheppie thieves

One arrest has been made.

There has been a spike in the theft of batteries over the past several months, with vehicles parked in the Port Shepstone CBD and at the beachfront in particular being targeted.

And it’s not only vehicles – generator batteries are fair game as well.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said in just one weekend, three vehicles at Port Shepstone Child Welfare had been broken into.

“The batteries were stolen from two of the vehicles while the radio was stolen from the third.”

A 24-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.

The case was postponed for further investigation.

In a separate incident, the battery from a vehicle and a generator were stolen from a business in Station Road.
