Hibberdene Happenings: Tireless warrior Terrence dies

He was a well-known figure in Hibberdene and will be fondly remembered for his good deeds and acts of kindness.

TERRENCE Olivier died suddenly last Friday after apparently suffering a heart attack – barely a month after his good friend Keith Scullard’s death. Some time ago, he and Keith took part in the Cold Fact Steri Walk to raise funds for the care and sterilisation of abused, abandoned and homeless animals in the area. Terrence worked tirelessly for the Rainbow Warriors organisation, providing care and shelter to needy animals.

He was a well-known figure in Hibberdene and will be fondly remembered for his good deeds and acts of kindness. It was heart-warming to see South Coasters and the LSC SPCA spring into action via social media to take care of the animals on site. It is hoped that someone will be able to continue Terrence’s excellent work.

Well organised

Voting day passed uneventfully and a good atmosphere prevailed at the time your scribe cast her vote. Queues were short, voters and assistants were friendly and helpful – some were even jovial.

Get well soon

Marie and Willie van Rensburg had an unfortunate experience last Friday when they were involved in a car accident outside Port Shepstone, almost adjacent to the golf course. Willie was fortunately not injured, but the car was damaged. Marie spent last Friday night at Port Shepstone Regional Hospital and is presently recuperating at home. She is wished a speedy and complete recovery.

Lyn visits

Hibberdene Lions were active during the past week. District governor Lyn Botha from Pinetown was the guest of honour at last Thursday’s monthly meeting. She gave a vivid description of her club’s involvement during the recent floods in the Kloof/Pinetown area, and also of her trip to America in her capacity as a Lion.

Alan joins

Alan Rossouw was inducted into the local club last Saturday and is now a fully-fledged Lion.

The induction ceremony was performed by Lion Brian Porteous in the presence of Alan’s friends and members of the club.

He is wished well. The Saturday lunch party was also in honour of four stalwart supporters of the club: women who, while not Lions themselves, work tirelessly selling raffle tickets, collecting jumble and helping out wherever they can.

Lucky winners

The Lion’s latest lucky draw has been concluded and the winners are Nicky van Coller – Tiago’s; his wife Ellen van Coller – Fifi’s Fresh Fish; Marnu Barnard – Jolly Roger Fun Pub; Eleanor Douglas – Hibberdene Pharmacy; Donald Mackinlay – Christmas cake; Nancy Allan – Mizpah Still Water, while André Geyser won both the Salon Marguerite and Feed and Seed vouchers.

Lion Alan Rossouw (left), sponsored by Lion Lionel Goliath (middle), was inducted into the Lions Club of Hibberdene last Saturday by past president Brian Porteous.

Prize winners are congratulated and reminded that vouchers are to be redeemed during the month in which they are won. The Blue Waters Pub and Grill’s Thursday’s raffle in aid of South Coast Hospice was won by Dennis ‘The Menace’ Lewis.

Diarise the date

A date has been set for the next Mtwalume flea and craft market and, as usual, it will take place at Koelwaters Resort on Saturday, June 1, from 9am. The area adjoining the swimming pool is traditionally reserved for the market and Andy Els will once again provide his irrepressible brand of music. Tables may be booked with Sue Paterson at 082 4002616.

Breakfast this Saturday

Mizpah Church holds it monthly men’s breakfast this coming Saturday, May 18, at 7am. Men of all denominations are welcome to attend. Contact Edgar Lilje at 084 5820772.

Birthday wishes for the week go to Miriam Seager (15th), Riaz Razak (17th), Ray Perks (19th) and Talitha Rossouw (20th). Hopefully all moms made the most of Mother’s Day and enjoyed a pleasant and restful day last Sunday.

Remember to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene photos and snippets.
