N2 at Bhobhoyi is now open after protest action

The protest centered on a road that was washed away during the recent floods.

About 150 protesters from Bhobhoyi blocked the N2 at Bhobhoyi in the early hours of this morning.

Protest action erupted at about 3am when protesters barricaded the N2 Main Harding Road at ABC intersection by placing obstacles and burning tyres in the roadway.

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said the protesters were complaining about the poor condition of the D1014 road which was partially washed away during the recent floods.

“The crowd wanted  Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu to address their concerns as a matter of urgency. There was a slow flow of traffic in the morning which was controlled by police and traffic police. No incidents or damages have been reported,” said Capt Mpinge.

The road is currently open and there are police stationed along the N2.
