During her 10-year tenure at Ugu, she was responsible for updating the Ugu Municipality Talk Facebook page and was the ‘go-to girl’ for all media related queries.

Her role as the social media ‘face’ of Ugu often put her directly in the line of fire from the many frustrated residents fed up with consistent water supply problems.

Spokesman France Zama confirmed the resignation.

“Ms Cele has selflessly served the municipality with diligence and commitment.”

Sphelele Cele looks forward to a new challenge.

Mr Zama said the municipality thanked her for her service over the years and wished her well in her future endeavors.

“We are confident that with the knowledge she has acquired, coupled with experience in government communications, she is poised to succeed in her new role.”

Norman Hlope has been appointed as acting communications practitioner.
